Sound Design
At Reverie the most important goal of our team was to create instruments that sound as excellent as can be. Instruments that magnetise attention from the first note, resonating to the audience immediately all that is good in music.
We paid attention to two primary factors during the process of sound designing:
The Acoustic Field
Our major inspiration has been the classical lutherie field - the Violin and Antonio De Torres’ classical guitar.
We manifested this inspiration in our tap tuning and bracing process, as it reflects in our hollow and semi hollow instruments.
The Electric Field
Influenced by the sound of vintage guitars of the 50s and 60s, in particular the approach of iconic players such as Peter Green.
As default, all our instruments arrive with out of phase mod in a homage to this fabulous artist. We believe that this mod is an important production tool for musicians.
We've produced our PAF humbucker. What drives us is to conserve the many beloved characteristics of an excellent iconic PAF : the well known “doubletone” signature, a great sustain, an airy sweetness, big and powerful sound and an amazing responsiveness.
We hand build our pickups- single coils, p-90s and humbuckers.
All in part resulting in instruments that are characterised by very high detail profile, inexplicable responsiveness to the player, incredible clarity, wide frequency range, wide dynamic range and rich overtone image.
We found it seriously important to create instruments that sound incredible whether it's playing harmony or melody. This combination between the acoustic and electric approaches add up to instruments that perform flawlessly in the world of modern production.
Tone wood, Tap Tuning and our Floating Hardware Method
Our handpicked wood is dried and processed in order to achieve the best results in terms of frequency range, overtones and resonance.
We use Ebony, African Mahogany, red Cedar, Oak, Katalox and the highest grade figured Maple.
We choose our top wood blanks carefully for visual aesthetic and tonal characteristics.
Tops go through a tap tuning and bracing process uniquely developed in order to Enhance the instrument’s unique voice and acoustic qualities,
being mindful of the fact that each top blank has differing properties.
This applies to hollow and semi hollow bodies exclusively.
All hardware and electronic components - pots, knobs, bridge, tailpiece and pickups are floating above the top and attached to the back of the guitar as to not obstruct vibration and to allow finest resonance, therefore resulting in a rich sound image that expresses the top tuning process.

Matchmaking them perfectly for the guitars' unique acoustic voice, yet preserving the vintage sound familiar character.
Our humbuckers re-enact excellent PAF’s that we had encountered over the years.

We have chosen electrical components of the highest quality available that meet the instrument sound requirements and provide emphasis of its unique character:
CTS and BOURNS potentiometers matched specifically as a set. The potentiometers are all of a specific resistance value range that compliment the pickups perfectly.
SWITCHCRAFT toggle switches and paper in oil caps.
The electric layout - 3 position toggle switch, master volume pot, master tone pot and rotary switch performing as a middle position selector - in and out of phase.
The out of phase mod is important and fundamental to our sound design.
We have created stunning pot knobs that are well planned in terms of weight and grip.
The Finish
All finishes, Nitro and The Old New finish, are applied in the thinnest layer possible down to tens of microns, so as not to interfere with the wood's resonance.
The Hardware
Carefully picked hardware coming from the best manufacturers in the world.
FABER ABR bridges, WAVERLY and GROVER tuning machines, and JESCAR frets.
We use the highest quality spoke-nut dual action truss rod made by Mike Gutsch via Allied Lutherie.
